IMC Worldwide School Retrofitting
The brief
What we were asked to build.
IMC Worldwide, a UK-based engineering consultancy, commissioned a structural assessment and retrofitting programme across 10 government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the DFID-funded School Construction and Rehabilitation Programme (SCRP). Each school required structural health assessment, identification of deficiencies, and targeted rectification work.
The challenge
What made it hard.
Government schools in KP serving thousands of students were operating with structural deficiencies — missing beams, undocumented modifications, and seismic vulnerabilities accumulated over decades. The brief was not new construction but rehabilitation, which is harder: every intervention has to integrate with the existing structure without compromising occupancy or scheduling. Each of the 10 schools had its own deficiency profile.
The solution
How we engineered it.
MCC's team conducted on-site structural health assessments at every school, identified missing structural members, and executed targeted retrofitting — including the installation of missing beams. Work was sequenced school-by-school to minimise disruption to active classrooms. Every retrofit was documented and signed off against IMC's specification.
The outcome
What was delivered.
All 10 schools rehabilitated and structural integrity restored. Completed on schedule in 2020 as MCC's first major third-party contract — the track record that earned the upgrade to PEC C3/E and triggered the SECP incorporation in 2025.
